[Xine-vdpau] Audio out of sync on dvd playback

I've isolated the problem down to what appears to be the AC3 tracks on DVD's.  Any main DVD track that uses AC3 has the audio delayed about .25 seconds behind a non patched xine-lib install.  Bonus material on the disk not encoded in AC3 are fine.  This problem is found on all DVD's that I have tested.

I've tested this on 3 different hardware systems, different ubuntu and fedora installs.  All have the same symptoms.

Does anyone know of a work around other than mapping audio adjustment to a key and having to adjust it everytime I watch a movie?  Or better yet the root of this problem?
